Inside the Cut: How Flat-Pack Really Gets Made on the Gold Coast

There is a fair bit that has to go right between a sheet of board and a cabinet that goes together cleanly. Most of it is quiet. Most of it is the sort of thing you only notice when it has been done badly.

We are Coastal Cut To Size, a cabinetry manufacturer in Molendinar on the Gold Coast. We are not the biggest name on the coast, and that is fine by us. We would rather get the small things right. This is what actually happens when we cut, edge and drill a job to spec.

It starts with your numbers

We do not come out to measure, and we will not redesign your kitchen for you. You send the specifications: sizes, a drawing, or a cut list. We manufacture to them. That keeps your cabinetry sharp on price and keeps you in control. If you would rather configure and price it yourself, that lives in our customer portal. If you have drawings and want us to come back with a price, that is the quote request form.

The cut

Every panel is CNC cut to your specification. The aim is not flashy. It is the same clean, square cut on the hundredth panel as on the first. That consistency is the boring part, and it is also the part that decides whether a job drops together or fights you on site.

When a job is more than square boxes, that is where the machines earn their keep: shark nose edging, curved work, routed door styles and shaker profiles prepared paint-ready. Painting itself is always quoted separately.

The edge

Edgebanding is one of those things you only notice when it has been done badly: lifting corners, glue lines, a colour that is almost but not quite right. We edgeband the edges you nominate, so the panel is sealed where it needs to be and the finish is clean.

The band has to sit flush, the colour has to match, and the corners have to be tidy enough that nobody thinks about them again. It is a small thing that quietly decides whether a job looks built or looks bought.

The drilling

The least glamorous step matters more than most people think. We CNC drill for hinges, runners and shelf pins so the hardware lands where it should. A fraction out and assembly becomes a fight. Done right, the parts simply go together. We run quality hardware, primarily Blum, with DTC also available, and we can accommodate most hardware requirements.

The materials

Polytec and Laminex are the ranges we work with every day. We also work with a range of other suppliers and boards, including Nikpol, FlexiPanel, EGR Decor, Stylex, Forest One and more. If you have a particular board you want cut, there is a good chance we can work with it.

Flat-pack or assembled

Some people take it flat-pack to assemble on site. Some want it built and ready to fit. That is your choice on every job. Either way it is made here and collected from our Molendinar factory, then installed by you or your own trades. Pickup is the norm, and we can assist with certain deliveries on request.

Why the small stuff matters to us

This is cabinetry made here on the Gold Coast, in our own factory. Everything is cut, edged and drilled in-house. That is exactly why we are particular about the parts most customers never look at, because those are the parts that decide whether a job goes together cleanly.

The details most people never notice are exactly the ones we care about most.

How long it takes

Most jobs are ready in 10 to 14 business days, subject to material availability and supplier lead times. Larger or complex jobs are scheduled on request. When yours is ready, we will let you know the day it is good to collect.

If you have a kitchen, a robe, or a stack of cut-to-size panels in mind, send it through. You can configure and price it in the portal, or send your drawings through the quote form and we will take it from there. There is more on what we make on our cut to size and kitchens pages.
